Here are some Season 2 Arcane GIF comparisons before and after I color and sharpen them! | Season 1 Comparison GIFs
#arcane#arcaneedit#gifmaking#reminder that if ur not a fan of the coloring and sharpening then i dont need to hear ur opinion so fuck off and make your own gifs :)#sooo yeah!!! just sharing this very old coloring comparison i use from time to time to make sure i follow a certain peg for my gifs#but i dont really follow it to the T of course#and now i will use the tags to rant/comment about my coloring process lmao#ok so.... arcane s2 is SOOOOO much brighter than s1 i am so so so thankful we have such bright scenes instead of all the dark ones in s1#because it makes my life so much easier#that being said my coloring isnt really perfect i still cant handle more complex tones like the mel gif......#i used to have a more stylized coloring wayyy back in s1 (esp when u look at my old gifs) but i kinda realized i had to change it#so i scrapped all my old psds and now coloredit EVERYTHING MANUALLY#hence why sometimes i gif the same scene but theyre colored different since i never use a preset PSD now#however it became way more tedious to make gifs... so yeah.... lmao#but in the end i like it more!!! i like that my new coloring just basically matches the show more but is just brighter and more saturated#unless ofc i dont like the tones of the original show i.e. the vi gif you see there where its super green gray???? idk i dont like it so#i recolored the entire thing#anyways thats really it coloring will always be something i continue to try to improve on but recently ive just been v busy so i just#speed color and edit everything and dont rlly take all adjustments into account so no more complex tones and#i just stick to basic things#oh right sharpening! so for sharpening i use a very basic setting: just 500 px and 0.4 radius which is what i use for almost everything#i also dont add noise bc the landscape photographer in me does NOT like it LMFAOOOOOOOOOO#but yeah thats really it for sharpening oh i also use 4k sources as much as possible bc it gives the best quality and if#i cant find any source i just upscale everything by myself then crop stuff again back to 540 px and imo it really just does look better#personal tag

so uhhhhhhhh. not to be cryptic and bitchy on main but congratulations to everyone in my messages for like 5 months on being right i guess
#ramble#ughhhhhhhhhhhh ok so#i will delete this later bc idk if this person has tumblr and i genuinely mean no ill will i just need an outside opinion#i vented about it on my close friends story already but i need like. a neutral party#i won't say their name but if you're on other socials you probably know who it is#basically for a while i've been getting messages saying 'this person has hacked your art style' or 'is REDACTED your alt account'#and in the beginning there were like. similarities? but nothing i could really claim and also i don't want to accuse someone of theft#like i don't own any stylistic choices or anything. i've used things from other artists i like. honestly it's kind of flattering#and we are actually really friendly in DMs now and we even joke about it. we message eachother any time we get a comment about it#i made a joke literally 2 weeks ago about how we're two different people i swear#but after adding some Very specific things to my art (like the paper texture/hatching/shiny lighting). they also added them#and i gave them the benefit of the doubt bc i don't like to believe anyone has bad intent with stuff like that. and i've done the same obvs#but recently they dropped some tav lore and it was. basically a panel for panel copy of one of my cyra comics down to the HAND PLACEMENT#and obviously i don't own the Bitch Mother trope or anything but it's just. mmmmm it makes me feel weird#idk it just feels like it's gone a bit far now and i'm not sure what to do about it#like you would think after we became moots they would get scared and stop but i think i was too openly trusting and they just kept going#recently someone on THEIR PATREON thought they were me and they weren't even one of mine (which by itself is funny but. y'know)#i don't want to call anyone out or upset anyone bc it only causes more problems but like. i Know. and idk if they should know that i know#maybe i'm just stupid idk i really trusted that it wasn't happening but it is and i don't know how to feel#hONESTLY I'M JUST MAD THAT I CAN'T DO ANY MORE CYRA LORE NOW BC PEOPLE ARE GOING TO ACCUSE **ME**#also PLEASE do not witch hunt this person i want to deal with this as quietly as possible#i really felt like i was in the twilight zone or just being paranoid so i had to ask

I will like actually never get over the choice to have marinette break adrien's rings in werepapas. without trying any other options. without any hesitation except for a slight look of concern on her face. and seeing her visually express concern/relief communicates to us that she knew there was a risk of her hurting/killing adrien there. and she just. did it anyway? without even trying to help millie break the akumatization herself? makes it hard for me to even like. understand marinette's characterization at all. she's committed to doing All This out of love for adrien but is also willing to quickly gamble his life in a situation with no other clear path forward? this decision, from the girl whose defining character traits are love, creativity, intelligence, and determination? she couldn't think of a way to navigate that situation that didn't involve risking her boyfriend's existence? most baffling writing choice of all time. borderline character assassination. to me.
#werepapas is such a whirlwind episode#I was so high on baby adrien and emilie flashbacks#and then they threw in “and then marinette breaks adrien's amoks as just part of a regular akuma battle”#and I couldn't even like. process that.#I know when this episode first came out people were theorizing that there was more to the situation than we knew but like.#there isn't. the rings weren't swapped. astruc talked about it on twitter and basically just said that intentions matter.#so marinette just. trusted that her intentions would matter. I guess.#which also just kinda nukes the stakes in my opinion#to tie adrien's life to an object is a really interesting high stakes scenario#but to go back on that and say “but only when someone is intentionally trying to kill him!” is like#oh okay . so. just like for any normal person then.#anyway im just trying to write a particular scene right now and having a lot of trouble incorporating the fact that canon marinette#would just break adrien's amoks no hesitation to get an akuma out#like. I dont know. maybe I am not the character understander. but I feel like marinette wouldn't do that.#just me I guess.#like. many of us were thinking about how adrien not knowing he's a senti is a major safety risk#because he doesn't know how important the rings are#man could get really angry at his parents one day and smash them#he could decide to melt them down to make something new#he could lose them somewhere#anyway. I never thought that his rings would need to be protected from . marinette .#but I guess like. as long as no one is TRYING to release adrien's amok then ? the rings CAN get damaged randomly ???#this lore is so confusing and I hate it#auagh.

Explanations for the Robespierre sibling feud compilation
Version given by Augustin in 1794 — Charlotte is abusing her brothers’ ”spotless reputation” by spreading calumnies painting them as ”bad brothers,” and threatens to ”take a scandalous step in order to compromise us.” Her goal with this is to ”lay down the law on us.” Augustin also implies Charlotte is meeting with suspect people, such as ”a certain Saint-Félix” (a several times arrested ”hébertist”), and tells Maximilien to meet with Guillodon La Saudraie (Augustin’s mistress according to the memoirs of Charles Nodier) who ”would give you certain information on all the masks that it is interesting to know in these circumstances.” He himself has reached the conclusion their sister ”does not have a single drop of blood that resembles ours,” and declares her to be ”our greatest enemy” and ”a woman who causes our common despair.” He therefore tells Maximilien they must send Charlotte off to Arras in order to ”take her away from us.” Source: undated letter from Augustin to Maximilien, usually traced to May 1794, cited in Correspondance de Maximilien et Augustin Robespierre (1926), p. 293.
Version given by Charlotte in 1794 — Maximilien ”detested her because she had the courage of letting him know the danger he ran by being sourrunded so badly,” as she, everytime she had met him, ”had taken the opportunity to let him know that the men around him were trying to deceive him.” Charlotte says she understood that the Duplay family had taken up the case to lose her older brother, and that this motivated her to move out of their house. But both her two brothers and Madame Duplay had also asked her to leave, and on top of that the latter had ”reproached her for seeing counter-revolutionaires, among them Guffroy, representative of the people.” Charlotte also affirms that she had almost fallen the victim of the Revolutionary Tribunal, to which she knows Maximilien, in the public spirit, ”passed for having appointed people to.” Source: interrogation of Charlotte held July 31 1794, cited in Charlotte Robespierre et ses mémoires (1910) by Hector Fleischmann, p. 85-86.
Version given by Armand Joseph Guffroy in 1795 — Maximilien and Augustin kicked Charlotte out of their house ”because she did not think like they did, because she came to see my wife and because she visited citizens who were sincere friends of justice and truth.” Maximilien even reproached her for these visits by saying she was frequenting ”a conspirator.” When Joseph Le Bon, the representative on mission in Arras, briefly returned to Paris in May 1794, he took Charlotte back with him when he set out for the north once again. This was partly to prove her wrong about charges of cruelty she had directed against him, and partly because her brothers wanted to ”get rid of her” (unknown if he by this means to say ”kill her” or just ”get her out of their sight”). Source: Les secrets de Joseph Lebon et de ses complices, deuxième censure républicaine(1795), undated Committee of General Security decree written by Guffroy in the spring of 1795, cited in Charlotte Robespierre et Guffroy (1910) by Hector Fleischmann.
Version given by Maurice André Gaillard somewhere before 1844 — by the spring of 1794, Charlotte says the Duplays have ”destroyed me entirely in [Maximilien’s] mind, today he hates the sister who served as his mother.” Despite living in the same house as her older brother, she no longer has the power to approach him, and advices Gaillard to not even speak to him about her. Charlotte seemingly shows despair over her brother’s role in ”the terror,” saying that, even though she still loves him tenderly, she’s ”no longer able to bear the pain and the shame of seeing my brother devote his name to general execration” and therefore ”ardently desire his death as well as mine.” She is nevertheless certain Maximilien’s ”excesses” are only the consequence of ”the domination under which he groans,” and she hopes Augustin will be able to help her get him to move away from the Duplays, who ”obsess over him and lead him to the scaffold.” Gaillard writes Maximilien for his part had ”devoted mortal hatred” to Charlotte ”since the trip she had made to Arras to collect evidence of the massacres carried out by Joseph Lebon.” Source: La Révolution, la Terreur, le Directoire 1791-1799: d’après les mémoires de Gaillard (1908) page 263-266.
Version given by Charlotte in 1834 — in the fall of 1793, Augustin and Jean François Ricord travel to the army of Italy to serve as representatives on mission. For company, Augustin brings Charlotte while Ricord takes his wife Marguerite. After a while of traveling for town to town the group settles in Nice for a longer period of time. Augustin and Jean François inspects the armies while Charlotte and Marguerite make shirts for the soldiers during the day and go for horseback rides in the evenings. The rides do however cause ”several journals paid by the aristocracy” back in Paris to state the two women are acting like princesses, and Maximilien writes a letter to let his siblings know (I have unfortunately been able to find neither the journals nor the letter). Augustin therefore vetoes future horseback rides, and Charlotte promises to abstain from them. Shortly thereafter, when Jean-François and Augustin are away, Marguerite suggests going on yet another ride to Charlotte, who hesitantly agrees, sad to be disobeying her brother but somewhat assured by the fact Marguerite will have to take full responsibility for the ride since it was her idea. But when Augustin a few days later reproaches Charlotte for breaking the rule and Charlotte does call on Marguerite to testify, the latter lies and says it was Charlotte who came up with it and took her with her against her will. Charlotte gets so stupefied by this statement she is unable to retort it, but Augustin, chooses to believe it, much to his sister’s despair — ”My brother knew I was incapable of lying. Why then did he not want to believe me?” After this incident, Augustin stops speaking to Charlotte and starts keeping a certain coldness towards her, a coldness which grows day by day since Marguerite ”didn’t cease to speak ill of me to my brother and invent thousands of lies to make me lose his friendship.” Charlotte cries over Augustin’s behaviour when alone, but hides her pain from her brother and chooses not to ask him for an explanation for why he’s treating her like he is either, since he’s so burdened by work.
A bit later, Marguerite suggests to Charlotte they should go to Grasse together to see a friend of hers, something which Charlotte agrees to. But just after they’ve arrived, Marguerite comes forward with a letter that she says is from Augustin, and that he’s telling Charlotte to return to Paris as soon as possible. Charlotte, without reading the letter, obeys. But Marguerite had in fact forged the letter, wanting Charlotte out of the way so she can seduce her brother. She and her friend Madame Gesnel now go on to slander Charlotte even more to Augustin, telling him that the reason she had so abruptly left for Paris was because she didn’t care about him, and that Charlotte had caluminated the reputation of both him and Marguerite. So when Augustin in December 1783 comes back to Paris for a short stay, he is ”outraged” against his sister, refusing to even put his foot in the same house as her, lodging instead with his colleage Record. He leaves for the army without seeing his sister even once, but does make their break known to Maximilien, and although he never speaks to Charlotte about it, she can see that he too is unhappy with her (he does however never seem to get more involved in the conflict than this). When Augustin returns from the army for the second time, in the summer of 1794, he is still ”fleeing my [Charlotte’s] presence” and ”telling anyone who would listen that I am unworthy of him, that I conducted myself badly with him, that I no longer deserve his esteem.” The two never manage to make up before his death.
Charlotte writes the reason she never asked either brother for why they were treating her like they did was partly grounded in her ”pure conscience” and feeling that she should’t have to, and partly in the fact she saw them both overwhelmed with work and didn’t want to bother them with her problems. Charlotte does however claim it wasn’t until after thermidor she discovered what had actually caused her brothers’ change in attitude towards her. How exactly she did is unknown (did Madame Ricord herself come forward and tell her about her intrigues? 🤔). Source: Mémoires de Charlotte Robespierre sur ses deux frères (1835), p. 109-116, 125-126.
@henriette-robespierre here you see what you missed out on! Still regret dying young?
#robespierre#frev#frev compilation#i have so many questions…#first off why is the account in charlotte’s memoirs the one giving the worst motive for the brothers to abandon her#despite being the only one here actually attempting to paint them in a positive light?#second off what do you need to do to give someone the reputation of a ”bad brother”#and since when do you disprove such a claim by calling the person spreading it your greatest enemy and shutting her out from your life?#third why is charlotte scapegoating the wrong mistress#it would have been much easier for me to believe the story in her memoirs had augsutin only written mme ricord instead of mme la saudraie#augustin robespierre#charlotte robespierre#maximilien robespierre#guffroy#also why are basically all the sources contradicting each other!? 😵💫#charlotte in her memoirs: i was a passive good woman who never bothered by brothers with my problems!#charlotte in her interrogation: i wouldn’t stop getting in my brother’s face to tell him my opinion#guffroy: max sent charlotte to arras bc he wanted to get rid of her#gaillard: max was soooo mad at charlotte for going to arras#also f u tumblr for that stupid word limit per paragraph if it aint broke then don’t fix it!

Nico and Percy's dynamic through the series is eternally funny to me, because it's just. like.
Percy's having a constant mental struggle between his fatal flaw of loyalty with a promise he made to Bianca to protect Nico, versus his Big 3 kid desire to maim other Big 3 kids / Poseidon descendant urge to totally maim Nico specifically. He hates Nico so so much. He thinks Nico's annoying and weird at best, and creepy/sketchy when he's older. The only positive thoughts Percy has towards Nico are "He's Bianca's brother and Bianca was my friend and I owe her/He's Hazel's brother and Hazel is my friend and would kill me if I was mean to him," "He's a powerful asset and useful ally (if questionable)," and "He's kinda pathetic and I feel maybe a little bad about it." Percy has multiple occasions throughout the series where he strongly considers - and on one occasionally actually goes through with - throttling Nico.
Meanwhile, Nico is following around Percy like a lost puppy. He explicitly can never bring himself to even dislike anything about Percy no matter how hard he tries. He has a whole bit in BoO where he's mentally going "UGH he's so stupid BUT IT'S ENDEARING HOW DARE HE." He's totally smitten. He's making deals with his dad for Percy. He's making convoluted plans to help Percy stand a chance against Kronos. During the entirety of BoTL it's like he's playing tsundere - "I'm helping NOT PERCY SPECIFICALLY with this quest! Me helping Percy would be SILLY because I DEFINITELY HATE HIM." Then he proceeds to show up to Percy's birthday party to basically ask him on a weird date and spend the entire next book scrambling around trying to help him or protect him or impress him. And Percy could not give less of a shit.
Just. That dynamic is so funny to me. Percy is the founder of the Nico Protection Club in that he's the one they're all protecting Nico from and meanwhile Nico is throwing himself at Percy to the point where the literal god of gay love calls him out on it.
#pjo#percy jackson#nico di angelo#Percy shows up at CJ and squints at Nico like ''hm. why do i feel like i hate you? like i just wanna punch you in the face?''#and Nico just immediately goes ''huh no idea anyways i have to go-'' and jumps into Tartarus#but not before he gives Hazel essentially a detailed explanation of ''this is Percy i cant say much but please dont let him die <3''#and Nico's whole Tartarus trip was basically a whole ''im doing this so no one else has to''#only for Percy and Annabeth to fall in like one book later and Nico proceeds to spend the next book internally screaming about it#and then Cupid calls him out on it and the next book#Nico's just like ''at this point im hoping i keel over within the next week just so i can force this dumb crush to chill the fuck out''#Nico staring pointedly at Will: ''For my own sake i need to form another crush RIGHT NOW so i can finally get over Percy.''#''this has been so bad for my health''#Nico's crush on Percy is just too funny to me. horrible pick my guy. terrible job. love that for you. he could not be less interested.#Percy LITERALLY TRIES TO KILL NICO and ditch him in the underworld and Nico is somehow STILL like ''but i love him''#Percy basically chokes him. beats up his dad. tells him ''go get smited by your dad for me.'' and ditches him.#and Nico's opinions/crush on him DO NOT CHANGE#though also Nico's reaction to Percy beating up his dad + skeletons is SO funny. his jaw is on the floor. he's flustered about it.#he just witnessed Percy be incredibly hot and proceeded to go ''yea i'll do anything for this man. collect reinforcements of 3 gods? sure''#nico you absolute DISASTER with HORRIBLE TASTE. you can do better. raise your standards.#which tbh is funnier when you factor in sun and the star. Nico just wont stop crushing on guys who dislike him and everything he stands for

Why were you so disappointed by Rhythm of War?
This has been sitting in my askbox for years. I've taken several cracks at answering, only to get frustrated with the subject matter and burn myself out every time. I didn't like Rhythm of War. More than that, I didn't like it in a way that tainted my enjoyment of the entire series. And despite what it may seem, I don't actually enjoy discussing things which I don't like. I always want to talk from a place of good faith. Which is why now that my feelings towards the series are a little more positive, I think I can finally answer this.
I'm going to try to stay away from specific plotpoints and story beats for this post, because my goal isn't to nitpick (if for no other reason than it would take a week to write this post), I'm just looking to talk about my overall impressions. I think that might mean the only spoilers here will be structural? idk, if you haven't read Rhythm of War yourself then you should probably do that before looking for other people's opinions anyway.
I liked Way of Kings when I first read it. I didn't love it at the time, but I liked it. Certainly enough to keep reading once I'd finished. One thing that made me a bit uncomfy, however, was the war against the Parshendi. They were this unknowable enemy which the book was not interested in knowing. An inhuman army. Their main purpose was to kill Kaladin's friends, or else be killed by Dalinar's armies. And yet the Parshendi, and the parshmen in the form of Shen, did show hints of personhood. And so it bothered me how Dalinar spoke so casually about how the Alethi had decimated their numbers, how the others used the war as a means to amass wealth and power. (It didn't bother me in a "this is a bad book" way but in a "these characters are bad people" way.)
One of my foibles as a reader is that when a book is very clearly treating one side of a conflict with more humanity, I tend to be a bit predisposed towards the other to account for that. And with the Alethi clearly being the invading party and superior military force, there was also some underdog favoritism. I didn't really like how the book treated the Parshendi. This is to say that going forward, the singers would be more important to me than any other through line.
So imagine my delight at reading Words of Radiance and meeting Eshonai, one of the Parshendi, who even gets her own point of view sections! They were no longer being treated as a faceless mass, we were getting to see things from their perspective as well. And it became plain to see the damage the Alethi had done to them. I couldn't really bring myself to root for Dalinar or really any of the humans against the listeners. I couldn't even bring myself to like most of these characters. I still enjoyed the book but once it became clear there wouldn't be a peaceful conclusion, let's just say that I wouldn't have wept for Dalinar and Adolin if Szeth had managed to off them. Like everyone in the book, I assumed that going forward all the parshmen would be turned into evil voidbringers in the everstorm and that the listeners were mostly dead. Except for Rlain, and Eshonai because I'd read or been told that book 4 would be Eshonai's book and thus had assumed she was fine. (Oathbringer spoilers, she was not fine.) So ultimately it was still a bit of a downer way to end the book.
So imagine my delight at reading Oathbringer, where for the first time singers were being treated as people, full and real people, and where the human characters could no longer ignore or dismiss them. We met Khen and the others, common singers who were sympathetic and just wanted freedom from bondage. We see Venli grapple with the loss of her home. We see Leshwi and Moash connecting with and understanding one another. We learn of a history where singers were the original inhabitants of the planet. Parallel to this, Dalinar is having a truly excellent character arc about confronting one's past actions and acknowledging them to move forward and do better. I loved Oathbringer, for some years it was my favorite book, and I was excited as hell to see what came next. At the time, it seemed to me that there is a clear direction the story is going. Two books about needless war, and then a third where the main cast is forced to acknowledge the personhood of their enemies. This was so cool, all of my feelings from the previous installments were being validated, the characters were going to have to face what they've done in the past and outgrow their militaristic mindsets, I was so sure of that.
Imagine my disappointment when that does not even remotely resemble the direction the story went in Rhythm of War. RoW presented a clear, straightforward “us vs. them" narrative, where every character was totally fine with killing singers. Characters aligned with the singers were either flattened into wholly evil versions of themselves (Moash) or were expected to turn on their side in favor of the humans (Venli.) Because clearly there was no reason good people would be on the side that's all former slaves trying to stay free. Maybe there's some sort of accord or understanding between Navani and Raboniel that I might have found meaningful if the seeds of mutual understanding weren't already there in Oathbringer and then apparently ignored for a year by all the characters.
I have a lot of issues with how the listeners are handled in these books. (Here's some elaboration.) Following OB, I had thought that all my concerns were going to be addressed. Following RoW, I knew they never would be.
Which is my main complaint, because that's the thread that matters most to me in this series.
I have a lot of other Things as well. Gonna just talk about a few big ones.
One outsized source of disappointment that may seem a little petty, and which probably is, is that I felt mislead by the premise of the book. It had been announced that this book would center Venli and Eshonai, and I was unbelievably hyped for that. That did not really turn out to be the case. The purpose for their backstory chapters felt less about exploring them as people and contextualizing their arcs, and more about filling in gaps of world history. In the main plot, Venli was a POV character and she certainly played a role, but honestly not a very important one overall. To me she felt like a side character in her own book. I don't think it's controversial to say that the main character of RoW was Navani. A lot of people really like Navani and are happy about that. Unfortunately I'm not one of those people, and I found it all the more difficult to enjoy her when it felt like it was coming at the expense of some of my favorite characters.
This particular gripe somewhat comes down to preference, obviously everyone prefers to read about characters they like more than those they don't, and it can go both ways. (For instance, on a craft/technical level RoW is probably the superior book to W&T, but I liked the latter a lot more because of my stupidly outsized attachment to Szeth and Nale.) But I do think there's something of a real criticism in how the book would rather focus on the feelings of a queen rather than those of a genocide survivor, and how the former's are given significantly more weight and import. It ties in with my main criticism, I think.
And then there's how human/human racism had also been wholly cast aside as a plot point. Jasnah fixed slavery so that's resolved, and the only person who still cares about structural racism is the evil bad bad evil villain Moash/Vyre, who is now wholly irredeemable and who you're allowed to totally write off because he's sold his soul to Odium. I've already talked a lot about this. Other people have already talked about this, probably better than me. The writing was actually on the wall for me in OB, but again, RoW was when I fully accepted that this was never going to be addressed.
There's something else that probably deserves its own discussion rather than being quickly tacked on at the end here, but here we are. This book changed how the series approaches war.
In WoK, war was very clearly portrayed as a bad and inglorious thing. It was brutal, it was painful, those at the bottom died cruelly and unceremoniously and pointlessly while those at the top turned a profit. Every day was a new horror. The enemy were never evil, they were always just more people forced to go through the same thing. Through the next couple books, it felt to me that even if the characters had accepted war as necessary, there was still a tragedy to it. Conversely, in RoW (and W&T) war is basically a series of boss battles, in between which our protagonists can kill dozens of footsoldiers with barely a thought in the same way WoK had criticized.
Final note on all this, it sucks how we have no perspectives from the former-slaves-singers demographic. Those guys are really thrown under the bus, and seemingly get no self-determination now or ever. It was a glaring problem to me in RoW. Conscripted and enslaved humans and singers probably have just as much ground to form mutual understanding as a fused and a queen. (In fact they already had. In Oathbringer.)
In essence, RoW disappointed me because it left me with the distinct impression that none of the series's most important through lines (well, most important to me) were going to be resolved well. I liked W&T, but I haven't revised my opinion very much about the overall handling of these topics across the series. Maybe one of the reasons I was able to enjoy W&T so much more was because I no longer had such high expectations.
#sorry i sorta need to get this stuff off my chest to unpack my feelings about the series.#i hope posting this out of the blue doesn't come across as too mean spirited. my sensitivity reader DID sign off on it.#(that is a joke. although i do let my sister look over any 1000+ word posts ahead of time. and i would respect any disapproval from her.#but normally she just tells me i'm allowed to be more forceful in my opinions without qualifying them or apologizing all the time. pfff.#the reason i've been hesitant to write any especially spoilery w&t meta is mostly because she hasn't read it yet.)#discourse#asks#hey anon if you're still here after all these years. thank you.#at the time i was kinda fishing for an ask like this bc i wanted to vent but it felt mean to do so unprompted#of course this was still really hard to write. mostly because every time i tried i completely spiraled.#the version of this post that was sitting in my drafts was honestly a lot better than this one. in basically every way. except.#except it was nearly the same length and all i'd gotten to was the oathbringer paragraph#below which was a stupidly thorough outline of my itemized complaints#you KNOW i don't care about brevity but my god that would have taken forever to write and finish#and i did not want to spend that sort of time with a book i didn't like. which i would have had to do to get all my planned citations#sorry past self. you were clearly writing from a place of much more passion and that made your work better than mine. and yet.#so as i said. i'm only writing this bc i now like the series enough to talk about it again. sincerely not trying to be a hater.#side note: if any of you have thoughts/opinions about the shift in the way war is used in these books. i would love to hear them. lets chat

i just wrote a whole post on how david and roger’s perception of each other ultimately led to their downfall and it started off as like a paragraph of surface level observations and somehow morphed into an essay length analysis that i can’t possibly justify posting 😭 i did kind of cook tho ngl i’m proud of her

#lena.txt#me when i’m normal#roger waters#david gilmour#pink floyd#watermour#even if i wanted to post it i would need to clean it up bc rn it’s just a huge mess#like it’s basically just a pure manifestion of my adhd#i got derailed multiple times like i never strayed completely from the point but i definitely had a lot of tangents#at some point i started talking about the seven deadly sins and how they pertain to the disharmony of pink floyd 😭#and obviously it’s completely opinion based so i can only use what facts or ‘evidence’ i do have to support my thesis#but i still think i did a pretty good job at capturing the full scope of things#even tho 99% of the time i’m like yeah i think this could be something but i am often wrong#i think this one came out pretty good and obviously there will always be a bias when it comes to anything opinion based#but i think it was a pretty fair analysis that doesn’t really favor or place much blame on either of them#it’s just how it is 🤷🏻♀️#also it’s actually based on my tags from another post i reblogged like last month about david’s perception of roger#and somehow it turned into a mini essay with a word count of 1.5k#of course if i go back and edit it i’m sure it will inevitably become longer and closer to 2k#also there’s nothing romantic about it in nature at all like the one reference made to intimacy is strictly about emotional intimacy

I am once again knitting which means I'm back to the Nein rewatch and happened to be on Midnight Espionage, and truly INSANE episode. The egg dick, both break-ins, the Zauber Spire attack, and the first time a beacon is on screen in like four hours flat. Trent Ikithon is there. The episode ends with Liam and Marisha yelling, "TRUST THE PORN."
#they dont make 'em like this anymore folks#honestly if you think the start of c2 is slow I trust that you hold that opinion but i do NOT understand#like yeah okay alfield is just basic dnd shit but you need a little of that#for PACING#literally the sheer quantity of plot that happens in this episode alone is wild#also very fun watching liam physically back away from the table in his chair realizing Trent is there#re: the comment this week iirc that he did NOT expect caleb's backstory to be so central#do you think that precisely was the moment he knew he done fucked up#cuz my guess is yes lmao#ANYWAY i did have to figure out what spell they used to attack the tower and I'm pretty sure it was gravity sinkhole#honestly pretty good for a fourth level spell! rip that dunamancer whos for sure gonna come to in like. hupperdook in fifteen years#i will not stop asking about the absolute trauma involved#with dying in this kind of assault and coming to in the next life in your enemy's military contractor town#insane concepts.#ANYWAY#megs rewatches c2

mandatory jiang cheng analysis now that i'm rewatching the untamed. (mind you i am currently 6 episodes in and this is exclusively based on the untamed. i have read the novel. i forget every word of it.)
tbh i have no strong opinions about the man in the first place just because... i don't really get attached to characters. and he wasn't like... interesting enough. but anyway
(adding a cut cause this got loooong)
seeing fandom discourse about him has made my conception of him confusing because he's always characterized as so angry by the fandom (at least from what i've seen. very surface level ik) but there's not really much reason to it other than jealousy about wwx and absorbing stuff from madam yu during the cloud recesses arc, and then bitterness and trauma (ig?) after the war and after the time-skip.
and then of course there's the fact that people either hate him or love him (as with many characters in this fandom lol) and there's really no in-between.
but rewatching the drama gave me thoughts:
1. the way jiang cheng acts with jin ling reminds me a lot of a concerned parent who can't express said concern through anything other than anger, and
2. bro is really concerned about face. actually a lot more concerned about it than the fandom led me to believe.
like okay, at first i was a bit confused as to why jiang cheng is constantly at wwx's neck for the smallest things, but i think these two factors play a major role in what makes him react the way he does.
I'll give two scenarios for your consideration:
first, let's look at jin ling in the first couple of episodes. this isn't about him, but rather how jiang cheng treats him. we know that jin ling cares a lot about his success. he does things (such as the 400 nets) to try and get ahead and do something note worthy. and jiang cheng encourages that attitude. he pushes his nephew to succeed, and jin ling responds to that. (i feel like their relationship actually sort of reflects the relationship jiang cheng had with madam yu. but that's something to look at another time.) at the same time, jiang cheng doesn't want jin ling to get hurt. he scolds him after recklessly going after the statue that appears in the first couple of episodes. but he doesn't know how to communicate his concern in any way other than yelling at him.
for the second we'll look at wwx during the cloud recesses arc. wwx is actually a lot more annoying than i remember, in the sense that i totally sympathize with jiang cheng. ik wwx is older, but it really feels like dynamic wise, jiang cheng is the older, responsible one telling wwx to behave himself. and he scolds him while telling him that! they argue! like siblings! but jiang cheng's frustration does seem a lot like the same concern that he has for jin ling. to jiang cheng, there are major consequences to misbehavior in gusu, and he wants to prevent anything bad happening to his brother. a lot of his anger seems to be out of care.
but in both cases, there's also the fact that i think jiang cheng is very conscious of face. honour/shame dynamics are very common in chinese culture, and as a clan heir, jiang cheng is probably hyper aware of the effects of one's actions on another's perception of you. he pushes jin ling to do better because it reflects well on the jinag, but more importantly, it reflects well on jin ling's parents. (and jinag cheng wants to honour his sister's memory, and what better way than to have her son succeed, and be able to stand with the best of his peers?) during the cloud recesses arc, they are in gusu to represent their clan, it's insulting to both their own clan and their hosts to be acting out of line. (probably, idk enough about chinese culture, but in my head it makes sense lol.)
wwx on the other hand appears to not care much about how one's actions affect the face of the group. there's definitely a sense that we get where he puts on this clueless, mischievous mask as a way to hide the fact that he's putting things together, but at cloud recesses, he's not really subtle about the goals of his questions. he's actually really blunt about things which is sorta unexpected. i'll need to compare that with how he acts later if to see if it's a skill he ends up developing better. but yeah, that aside, he just... he's willing to do stupid things because they are fun, and does not really think about how his frequent getting into trouble will affect others. (i'm not sure if he just straight up does not care, does not realize, or knows how to toe the line just so. maybe it's up to our interpretation. but i think the confrontation when the wen's interrupt their turn to salute, and the moment where he purposefully collides with jin zixuan and then lets him go ahead demonstrate a decent amount of social awareness so it's not like we can say he's totally unaware? idk.)
tldr, jiang cheng and wwx's personalities clash big time. one who cares too much about how one is perceived, and the other who completely disregards it. and big clash = argue a lot. iconic sibling behavior, let's be real
i do think that further along in the story it's possible that jiang cheng's motivations and reasons for why he acts the way he does become a lot more complex (because trauma + the war + just how people work in general), but to me, this concern for his family and his extreme focus on family honour seem to be his core motivators.
#people have argued so much about this man that i needed to form my own opinion of him#this is just me processing#if you want to argue in the comments or tags PLEASE KEEP IT FRIENDLY#we are here to have a good time folks#(not that i expect this to get much attention in the first place anyway lol)#might add to this as i watch more of the drama#i desperately hope this makes sense#also mandatory disclaimer that i know basically nothing#this is just deranged rambling#jiang cheng#wei wuxian#mo dao zu shi#the untamed#urban's ramblings#also! this is not all his character is!#but this is what stands out to me the most about him :P

I know we (rightfully) give Attack of the Clones a lot of grief for Obi-Wan just being able to show up unannounced and for him to just be given the literal biggest state secrets possibly of the entire war, in addition to how this cloning operation has been going on for like a decade without anyone knowing anything or any documentation crossing Mace Windu’s desk, but considering Sifo Dyas or Dooku or whoever was able to somehow erase an entire planet from (allegedly) every known bit of data collection or documentation, it could be argued that maybe Dyas and Dooku were just master forgers and had fake correspondence and reports going between them and the Kaminoans for over a decade now.
It’s not that far of a leap to say they got their hands on some heavily encrypted software on some very expensive computers and were able to imitate different speech patterns and documents and handwriting and official stamps or even holograms and holocalls. As far as the Kaminoans know, all of their contacts are fully aware and in the know about this clone army (because as far as they know, Sifo Dyas is alive and had to have been in communication recently)— When Obi-Wan shows up, it just happened to be at the exact time Dooku was the one supposed to be there in person himself that day. The Kaminoans did greet him as Master Jedi and said he was expected.
Obviously that could have only worked in the movie if Dooku had shown up and we saw him having to keep his cool/sneak around when some other Kaminoans tell him his “assistant” has already arrived, would you like us to escort you to him?
Internally Dooku’s thinking “WHOMST??” but externally he’s keeping his chill while searching the Force for whoever else might be— is that OBI-WAN KENOBI??
It’s soooooo tasty for Qui-Gon’s master and Qui-Gon’s apprentice to meet under these circumstances. Both of them know the other shouldn’t be there right now. They’re both having to play it cool in front of the Kaminoans, and this is even besides the fact Kenobi was there to find the bounty hunter assassin in the first place.
“I didn’t think you… were still as active in the Order,” Obi-Wan says slowly and diplomatically, knowing for a FACT that Dooku left the Order a long time ago.
“I… retired from active service,” Dooku says, equally diplomatically. “I act as a… consultant from time to time.”
“It’s soooo funny how I’ve never heard anything about that or this clone army the Jedi ordered,” Obi-Wan says, making direct eye contact with Dooku and probably trying to read his mind (to no avail). “The one they ordered ten years ago before there was ever any thought of the Jedi being actively involved on the frontlines of what isn’t a declared war. What would the Jedi want with a military in the first place?”
“How old are you, young one?” Dooku deflects in that fake kindly condescending grandfatherly voice. “How long have you been on the Council— Oh you’re just a Kniiiiight, that’s right, okay I see. How interesting. How much information are you actually privilege to, Obi-Wan?”
And this is all happening even before Obi-Wan Nancy Drew’d his way to Jango Fett’s private quarters!
Obi-Wan KNOWS he can’t go rogue right now when he’s that far from his ship on a city surrounded by an ocean and a literal army of clones soldiers (of that one super efficient bounty hunter, whenever it is he finds that out) all apparently under the command (?) of someone who definitely definitely super should not be speaking or doing or ordering anything under the name of the Jedi Order.
Count Dooku (who he doesn’t even know is a Sith yet) could very easily accuse him of being an impostor and have him detained or attacked or killed on sight. Zam Wessel was already established to be a shapeshifter in this movie, so it’s not outside the realm of possibility for Obi-Wan to not be who he says he is (which is kinda true?? since he WASN’T the Jedi ambassador for the Temple there to pick up his to-go order of a quarter-million identical men, with a million more on the way??). The Kaminoans might not even know much else about Jedi and Sith aesthetics besides “Wears robes” so if Dooku pulled a red lightsaber it might not even faze them, since he’d be able to provide more information and correspondence proving he’s the ‘actual’ Jedi anyway
Like can you imagine a fight breaking out not just between Kenobi and Jango, but a team-up of Jango and Dooku against Kenobi? That would have jumpstarted some of this clone army business a lot earlier in the movie and actually addressed what should have been the biggest conspiracy, coverup, and militaristic move of the MILLENNIUM
#AND— OH NO WHAT’S THIS?!#IT’S A PREQUEL POST WITH A STEEL CHAIR#Obi-Wan Kenobi#Attack of the Clones#Long post#Count Dooku#the clones#prequel trilogy#Star Wars prequel trilogy#I can’t remember my tags#Star Wars AU#Basically my biggest opinion of the prequel trilogy is really that if it was supposed to be about the clone wars#They should have already set all of the movies in the Clone Wars#I think we could have gotten a more effective and evocative story with Anakin and Amidala and Kenobi AND people most prominently involved#Without needing to see how the three of them ended up becoming The Main Characters#Like if you really wanted me to care about Order 66 you need to have made all of these characters and moving parts more prevalent in the nar#*narrative#You still could have developed the biggest character traits of each of them and had the events that lead to Anakin’s betrayal happen#and in that more focused narrative we would have actually felt the tragedy and horror that Order 66 should have evoked#for the entire audience#Not just the people who had seen several seasons of a supplementary cartoon#Your story’s got to be able to stand on its own legs#Watching RotS doesn’t give me anything to care about when it comes to the clones or their relationships with the Jedi or even all the other#Jedi who are killed too. Like besides Anakin marching on the temple and us seeing the implication that he just kills a bunch of children#We don’t actually have any established material within the movies to makes us care about the Jedi and the clones and the war itself#The war just feels like a backdrop instead of the driving action#anyway I don’t actually have a concise fix-it suggestion for the prequel trilogy like I did with TPM#… yet#I just like the thought of Kenobi and Dooku accidentally crossing paths and kicking off the action sooner#Better than a bunch of boring hallway talks

i don't know why my dash insists on shoving insipid anti-haladriel content down my naked throat. if you want to kneel before stories with your head bowed in shame, reverent in the wrong ways, fearful of the male conservative gods, then fine. if you like stories clean and sterile and stripped of blood and lapse and fury then cool. if you enjoy your temples without blood sacrifice then that is your choice. but stop insisting other women need to agree with your stifling opinions. some women are born in the old faith, where narrative is neither pure nor safe, where transgression is sacrament, not sin. you can love the shepherd all you want, but don't go crying when other women prefer the wolf. stay in silence in your stifling little churches, but quit insisting we must kneel beside you. we're not interested.
#haladriel#god i am tired of reading basic af opinions but i need to remind myself i was probably once basic and boring (or was i)#i just cannot imagine engaging with stories in such a vapid and fearful manner it seems so so so boring and lacking#i could rant 4eva about the shadow of right-wing conservatism falling over everything & everyone & how this is impacting fandom spaces#particularly when it comes to female interest in transgressive romances#it is scary how radicalised women are without even knowing it ('clean girl' 'soft girl' 'can't ship that' 'old money aesthetic')

anyways ppl with vaginas are amazing and not inherently less than anyone with a penis and if you disagree you can jump off a bridge <3
#go ahead. TRY to read anything into this that isnt just what the statement is saying.#bc lets be honest- a lot of ppl on here praise penis's but just do it for trans women so its 'better' somehow??? like its still penis#worship either way and its fucking weird to do.#i mean personally if i was a trans woman i'd feel like everyone was fetishizing me and i'd be really uncomfortable.#like if i wasnt already avoidant of ppl sexualizing me before that would be the nail in the coffin for me#hey everyone i have an idea: what if we treat all genitals as neutral?#like penis's are fine and great but the way ppl praise and fetishize girls with dicks is.... wild#and no you're not inherently better about it bc you're queer.#i sometimes think about what it'd be like if i was born the opposite way and became a trans woman instead but still had my brain#and i think the over sexualization of transfems would overwhelm me to the point of having a panic attack and never leaving the house#so like basically already what im dealing with but new layers and dimensions and reasons for why its happening added on#and id prolly detrans but thats bc i actually like being a dude so like. it just wouldnt work out in general. but i can see myself trying#it and probably being terrified the entire time. i just feel like a lot of the support transfems get isnt about like their actual struggles#but bc ppl can fetisihize and sexualize them later if they show they're 'on your side' and im worried a lot of transfems are desperate#for anyone who will take them and yeah.... idk. ig to me the 'support' doesn't really feel like support but feels more like...#'nice guy says all the right progressive words to get you to sleep with him' type beat#not all the support to be clear- i honestly specifically mean like. trans guys who id as tme or cis women who even seem like they're#pretending heavily that you're the same. idk. like the ppl who defend trans women against the idea of transandrophobia being real#dont... feel like they're actually doing it out of genuine support or fucks......#it feels like they're saying everything you WANT to hear instead of what you NEED to hear. and anyone who glazes you that much#i feel like is p much only doing it to get in your pants. like wow you think ALLLL of my political opinions are correct? i don't believe#you at all lmao. and anyone who's pretending that hard likely just wants something from you. bc watch them turn around and use#some of your takes against you when its convenient.
